Dr. Gorman Named President of Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons

AUSTIN – William Gorman, MD, of Austin, a specialist in plastic surgery for over 20 years, was elected President of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons (TSPS) during the annual meeting, September 28-30, 2007 in Bastrop, Texas.

Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons strives to benefit humanity by advancing the art and science of plastic and reconstructive surgery; to promote the highest standards of professional skills and competence among plastic surgeons; to promote the exchange of surgical, scientific, and socioeconomic information among plastic surgeons and other physicians; to promote the highest standards of personal and professional conduct among plastic surgeons; to provide the public with information about the scientific progress in plastic and reconstructive surgery; to function as a patient advocate in state and national legislative policy matters; to monitor medical/legal changes which impact the practice of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the state and national levels. Its membership comprises more than 320 board certified plastic surgeons.

Dr. Gorman has been a TSPS member since 1989 and is board certified in plastic surgery. For the past four years he has served on the Executive Council of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons. He is also a member of the Austin Society of Plastic Surgeons, Travis County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

After graduating with two degrees from the University of Texas at Austin, he attended Texas Tech University School of Medicine, and graduated with an M.D. degree in 1975. Dr. Gorman did his internship and his general surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical Center in San Antonio, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. 

He later completed his residency in Plastic and Reconstructive surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He returned to Austin with his family in 1983 and has since been practicing his specialty of Plastic Surgery. 

Dr. Gorman is one of the founding members of the Austin Smiles organization, which sends three medical groups a year to third-world countries to treat children with cleft lip and other birth abnormalities. He regularly goes on mission trips and has operated on hundreds of children around the world.
