Frequently Asked Questions
Read below for frequently asked questions about our Skin Care Clinic services. If you have a question about a surgical procedure, please visit our Surgical Procedures FAQ page. What is Thermage?
Thermage is a non-invasive procedure to tighten existing collagen and stimulate new collagen growth using a radiofrequency which safely heats the deeper layers of your skin. What is the difference between Botox and Juvederm/Restylane?
Botox is a botulinum toxin that is injected into the muscle to restrict movement. By restricting muscle movement, you are not able to create the expression causing the wrinkle. For example, it works to smooth the lines in your forehead or between the eyebrows. Because you do not want to restrict muscle movement in the area around your mouth, we have fillers to fill the lines. Juvederm and Restylane are both fillers made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body. These products are used to fill the crease or plump the lips. How many Fraxel treatments do I need?
The Fraxel Laser works by producing thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, covering approximately 20 - 30% of the skin's surface per treatment. The unaffected skin helps the treated skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once. Because only 20 - 30% of the skin's surface is affected per treatment, you need at least 3 - 5 treatments to get desired results. Each of these treatments are spaced approximately four weeks apart. How many laser hair removal treatments do I need?
When being treated with a laser for unwanted hair, the laser is seeking out the pigment in the root of your hair follicle. Because of this, the hair must be dark. The laser does not recognize blonde, red, grey, or white hair. Hair grows in cycles and the laser can only remove hair that is in the active growth stage, therefore, multiple treatments are needed. Though the number of treatments needed can never be guaranteed, we have noticed some averages in our patients. Removal of hair on body areas usually need 4-6 full treatments. Facial hair generally requires 8-10.How many photofacials do I need?
The number of photofacials you will need depends on the severity of sun damage to your skin. We recommend 3 - 5 treatments four weeks apart to begin with. Please note that even though this procedure will remove pigment from your skin, you will have to protect yourself from the sun and wear sunscreen every day to prevent the pigmentation from returning. It is highly recommended that you have touchup treatments 1-2 times a year post your series to keep the maximum results. Not all skin types can have this procedure.Should I shave before a laser hair removal treatment?
We prefer that you shave two days before getting a treatment for unwanted hair. Minimal amount of growth is required so we can see the area that we are treating, but too much growth can affect the performance of our machine. How can I prevent bruising during a treatment?
There is no guarantee that you will not bruise during some of our procedures. Please make sure to ask your skin care provider if this is a concern for you. There are some things you can do to reduce the risk of bruising. Refrain from taking any of the following supplements, etc. two weeks prior to you treatment: Vitamin E, Fish Oils (Omega 3), Alcohol, Ibuprofen, Aspirin (or any other medication that may thin the blood.)What is your cancellation policy?
