Lip Augmentation

What you should know and expect

Lip augmentation—also commonly referred to as lip enhancement, lip enlargement, or lip implants—is a surgical approach to cosmetically increase or improve the fullness of the lips using one of four courses of action:

• Injections.
• Grafting.
• Local flaps.
Perma Facial ImplantTM.

Lip augmentation techniques are sometimes performed in tandem with other facial procedures such as facial implants, Botox®, chemical peels, and facial laser resurfacing. Did you know lip augmentation could not only improve the appearance of the fullness of your lips, but also minimize fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth? Whatever your lip enhancement desires are, be sure to make a consultation appointment to explore which option is best for you.

Lip Augmentation—Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: “How Long Do Lip Augmentation Procedures Usually Take?”
A: Most lip augmentation procedures are finished in an hour or less, while some can take as little as 15 minutes, with other, more complex procedures approaching 2 hours.

Q: “What kinds of side effects can I expect?
A: Reactions that tend to occur range from prolonged redness, swelling, itching, or hardness at the injection site.

Q: “How long will my recovery time typically be?”
A: Ordinarily, you can return to normal activities within one day after most lip enhancement procedures. Graft recipients require 1 to 2 weeks.

Q: “What are my risks?”
A: Possible lip enlargement complications include bleeding, uneven upper and lower lips, or implant(s) shifting or erupting through the skin. Lip grafts can also leave lips feeling unnaturally stiff for 2 to 3 months after lip augmentation surgery.

Q: “What kinds of results can I hope for?”
A: Depending on the material used in your particular lip enhancement experience, results can last from weeks and months to a permanent condition. Restylane, for example, may last from 9 to 12 weeks, while fillers that are injected can last as long as 6 years.
