The final step of your weight loss transformation

Weight loss can be a momentous event in a person’s life, but it can also create new challenges such as loose, sagging skin and excessive wrinkling. In most cases, no one will notice this as much as you will. You are your own worst critic, and you are beautiful the way you are. However, if you feel self-conscious or shy about the loose skin on your thighs, you can do something about it and you don’t have to live with it. In a thigh lift, your surgeon will remove excess fat and skin from your thighs, creating a smoother appearance with better-proportioned contours.

What are the benefits?

In addition to increasing your self-confidence and satisfaction with your appearance, benefits of a thigh lift include:

  • Firmer and more youthful-looking thighs
  • Smoother skin with less dimpling from cellulite
  • Less chafing and more freedom to perform various exercises and activities
  • Less noticeable stretch marks
  • More options when choosing clothing

Surgical technique

A thigh lift is performed to address the inner thighs or outer thighs (lateral thigh lift), or both. During an inner thigh lift, your surgeon will make an incision near the top of your thigh (along the crease where the torso meets the leg), and down the inner aspect of the thigh.

Once he has made the incision, he will remove a large section of tissue from the top inner thigh area, excising away any excess skin. Liposuction may be used to sculpt the area into a more desirable contour.

The soft tissue structures and muscle will be pulled tight and secured, resulting in a more toned and smooth skin surface.

A customized combination surgery in Austin, TX

A thigh lift can often be combined with another body contouring procedure, especially if it involves another area of the lower body. A common combination surgery for patients is a thigh lift and butt lift. If you require an outer thigh lift, you will most likely need to have your buttocks addressed as well. During this approach, the outer thighs are pulled up and tightened, then secured with sutures along the crease at the bottom of the buttocks. In addition to a tighter appearance, you should see a drastic improvement in skin irregularities, such as dimples from cellulite.

How long does the surgery take?

All thigh lift surgeries are performed under general anesthesia in our accredited surgical facility as an outpatient procedure. The surgery typically takes around 2-3 hours to complete. However, your procedure could take longer if you are combining it with another procedure. Recovery will vary, but typically takes 6-8 weeks. Scarring is a natural part of this procedure. With proper care, your scars should heal nicely and fade over time. You will see a marked improvement in the contour of your thighs, as well as a smoother, firmer skin tone. We will provide you with detailed instructions to help make your recovery as rapid and smooth as possible.

Thigh lift FAQs

Will a thigh lift remove my cellulite?

A thigh lift improves the appearance of the skin on the thighs. Because the skin is pulled and tightened, a smoother, more toned look will result. Some patients find that this alone makes the surgery worth it. Stretch marks are also less noticeable after a thigh lift. While the surgery doesn’t remove every imperfection, the improvement can be very dramatic for many patients.

Will I be able to exercise normally after a thigh lift?

Some patients fear that they will not be able to perform certain exercises (such as a lunge) after a thigh lift. This is false. You will need to make certain you are fully healed and gain approval from your surgeon before performing lower body exercises. Once healed, exercise will only help optimize your surgical outcome.

Will my results be long-term?

The results of a thigh lift can be very long lasting. However, any additional weight gain could compromise some of the aesthetic results gained of the surgery. Over time, age and gravity will cause some of the natural laxity within the thighs to increase, but most of the improvement will be lasting.
