With so many diets on the market and the media constantly advertising new trends, it can be difficult to determine what diet will actually help you lose and maintain your weight while also being healthy. Here are the ugly truths about some of the fad diets as well as tips on how to lose weight in healthy ways.

Juice Diets

While the juice of healthy fruits and vegetables is a good source of vitamins and nutrients, just drinking the juice instead of the whole food cuts out the fiber. Fiber is essential for a healthy diet because it promotes digestive health, helps maintain a healthy weight, and lowers the risk of diabetes and heart disease. In addition, fruit juices, whether made naturally with a juicer or store-bought, contain a large amount of calories and sugar, which can be detrimental to those trying to lose weight.

Try blending whole fruits and vegetables into a smoothie to drink as a meal.

Extreme Diets

Diets that heavily restrict what or how much you eat or require vigorous exercise too often may produce results quickly, but these extreme diets are not realistic and are difficult to endure long term. The chances of following through with extreme lifestyle changes in the long run are low, and people often end up gaining back more weight than they initially lost because restricting too much generally leads to overindulgences.

Treat yourself every once in a while with a favorite food so that you don’t feel deprived.

Super Pill or Super Food

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. There is no magic pill or specific food you can ingest that will wondrously make you lose weight, and if by some chance it does work at first, it is most likely unhealthy and will not continue to produce results. Diets or supplements that promise more than one to two pounds of weight loss per week are not offering a healthy rate for losing weight and will likely result in gaining more weight back.

A Healthy, Balanced Diet Plan for Weight Loss

Small lifestyle changes can make big differences. Add fruits and vegetables to every meal to provide your body with healthy nourishment instead of loading up on empty calories. A balanced diet with fruits and vegetables, protein, healthy fats, and whole grains will give your body the nutrients and energy it needs to function properly for losing weight. Eating the right foods will help your body burn calories more efficiently, and consuming fewer calories than you burn is the most effective way to drop the weight. We have incorporated Ideal Protein into our regimen to assist with weight loss. The Ideal Protein system not only provides meals that are low in carbohydrates and high in protein, but our nurse Judie Jackson will be your personal coach. Contact her at [email protected]

Austin Plastic Surgery

If you’ve followed a healthy diet and exercise plan and still can’t get rid of stubborn fat, liposuction can be performed to provide more slender body contours. We utilize the PALS (power assisted liposuction system) as well as traditional liposuction. This is often used in combination with other body contouring procedures. For those who have lost weight and are left with excess skin, other body contouring procedures (tummy tuck, lower body lift, and arm lift) are also available to achieve the body you desire. If you are interested in these or any other plastic surgery procedures, please call (512) 732-3000 today or visit our online contact page to schedule your consultation. Our board-certified plastic surgeons at Austin Plastic Surgery Institute are dedicated to providing patients with the safest and most effective procedures to give them the confidence they deserve.
